Motion pictures are a valuable form of entertainment and communication that have the power to engage and captivate audiences. As a student in the Master of Space Studies program, I have had the opportunity to work on two motion pictures, which has allowed me to gain hands-on experience in this field and further understand the importance of this medium.
Idea
The Moon Gallery Foundation is planning to send 100 artifacts to the moon in compact form on the outer panel of a lunar lander to promote an upcoming initiative. A promotional video was prepared to explain the mission and show a simulation of a rocket going to the Moon.
Mood board of the flow decided to proceed with the motion video.
IMPLEMENTATION
A video showcasing various visual styles of space mission phases was created using different commercial footage. It includes a rocket launch, departure from Earth’s atmosphere, orbital maneuvers, lunar views, landing on the lunar surface, and a final shot of the Moon Gallery. Blender was used to produce work-in-progress images and a rocket launch simulation with Earth-like physics. The simulation features a predefined path around Earth, a camera following the rocket, sunlight, and a Milky Way background image. The Sun and Moon objects were textured in the model space for perspective views with a camera.
3D modelling with necessary physics to create realistic elements in Blender
implication
The final video was produced by compiling multiple PNG frames and rendered using Blender 3D and realistic environmental physics. The video was then edited in Adobe Premiere Pro and subtle and adventurous music was added to enhance the overall experience. It was a challenging yet rewarding experience, and I hope that the final product will generate interest and reach out to investors, space enthusiasts, and the general public.
